Introduction

Assistant Professor Gi-Kuen Li holds a J.S.D. and an LL.M. from University of California, Berkeley, School of Law. At Berkeley Law, he was a member of Samuelson Law, Technology & Public Policy Clinic and an associate editor of Berkeley Technology Law Journal (BTLJ). Before he started his academic career, he was a lead consultant at a legal analytics startup company in the Silicon Valley, who directed the legal research team and managed its international business and services. Before he joined National Tsing Hua University Institute of Law for Science and Technology, he taught at Shih Hsin University Graduate Institute of Intellectual Property and Communication Technology Law. His research interests include intellectual property law, law and technology, and empirical research. His recent research projects include “Artificial Intelligence and Intellectual Property Rights: An Empirical Assessment on Rights and Limitations,” and he also researches as co-PI on two interdisciplinary projects which utilize machine learning to explore contracts and trademark case law. He has presented at the Intellectual Property Scholars Conference (IPSC) and IP Scholars Asia Works-in-Progress Conference (IPSA), and received the Young Asian IP Scholar Award during the 2019 IPSA. Currently, he teaches Copyright Law, Trademark Law, Advanced Copyright Seminar, Legal Research and Writing, and Introduction of Technology Law.
