Curriculum

Deeply rooted in the great vision of its founders, ILST has carefully developed a specific curriculum comprising five fields of legal research as its core interdisciplinary legal education, which are detailed as follows.

Biotechnology Law

The biotechnology law program covers the functions and limitations of regulations in relation to human lives and dignity. In this sector, emerging legal issues concerning genetic technology, and traditional yet evolving legal issues concerning medical care and public hygiene, are introduced. This program consists of courses on reproductive technology & law, legal & social aspects of biomedicine, indigenous peoples & the law, legal issues regarding human tissue, and high tech product liability, among others.

Environmental & Energy Law

The environmental & energy law program cultivates students’ ability to analyze environment and energy policies and regulations. This program is introduced from the perspectives of not only domestic law but also international law and policies, so as to anticipate the impact of international practice on Taiwan, and further determine corresponding strategies. This program consists of courses on energy politics & energy law, European environmental law, seminars on energy & natural resources law, and seminars on environmental law.

Info-Communications Law

The info-communications law program introduces legal issues pertaining to information, telecommunications and mass communication. The seminars offered in this program cover the legal and regulatory topics about technology, market, and policy factors to tackle related disputed issues. This program consists of courses on information & telecommunications law, Internet & law, information security & cybercrime, mass communications law, and constitutional law seminar on freedom of expression, among others.

Intellectual Property Law

The intellectual property law program introduces intellectual property rights and its domestic and transnational practice. This program consists of courses on trademark law, patent law, copyright law, trade secret law, and fair trade law. There are also advanced courses such as competition law seminar, international patent law & practice, and seminar on the IP Court & trial practice.

International & Comparative Law

The international & comparative law program introduces legal practice pertaining to international law and legal development in in other countries. Students will be able to analyze various fields of research from international and comparative perspectives. In the era of globalization, knowledge in international practice is more than helpful in thesis construction, advanced education, and even practice in law firms and companies. This program consists of courses on Anglo-American contract law, tort law, property law, international trade law, and air & space law, among others.

In addition, whether or not a student graduated from law school, legal writing is a required course, in which students are trained to perform information analysis and structure arrangement.
