Introduction

Professor I-Ning Liao graduated with a Bachelor of Law (and a minor in Chinese) and a Master of Criminal Law, both from the College of Law, National Taiwan University. She passed the Advanced Lawyer Examination and is qualified as a certified lawyer after completing the internship. Her qualifications also include certification of the Special Judicial Examination. During postgraduate studies, Liao served as the planning editor of The Taiwan Law Review (Yuanzhao Publishing Company), and went to Waseda University in Japan as an exchange student. Her master's thesis focuses on capacity of persons with intellectual disabilities to consent to sexual activities under Article 225 of the criminal code, which was honored with the Outstanding Doctoral and Master's Thesis Award from the College of Law, National Taiwan University as well as the Master's Thesis Award from the Taiwan Law Society.

Liao later graduated with a Ph.D. from the University of Freiburg, Germany. During her Ph.D. studies, she received a doctoral scholarship from the German Academic Exchange Center (Deutscher Akademischer Austauschdienst, DAAD), and wrote a doctoral dissertation on the legal basis of the victims consent in the criminal law.

After receiving her Ph.D. degree and returning to Taiwan, she served as a post-doctoral research assistant for Professor Yang-Yi Chou of the National Taiwan University in the Higher Education Deep Cultivation Program, and then taught at Institute of Law for Science and Technology (ILST) at National Tsing Hua University.Professor Liao's research interests mainly fall in the basic theories of criminal law and its extended topics. Currently, the subjects she teaches include general rules on criminal law, sub-rules on criminal law, introduction to law, and seminar courses on related topics.
